RAYMONDSON

 A DIFFERENT KIND OF FUN

Watch your child grow in knowledge, skills and confidence as they learn to solve interesting maths problems

Give your child skills for the future

The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs study shows that those  who successfully combine mathematical and interpersonal skills in the knowledge-based economies of the future should find many rewarding and lucrative opportunities. These are the skills we help students to develop with our extraordinary maths tuition programme.

At a Raymondson maths club, students learn to think rigorously, precisely and creatively to solve problems. They learn how to learn independently and through collaborative in-depth study and maths team challenges, they develop their communication skills.

Get your child excited about maths

Raymondson offers a engaging and challenging maths tuition programme for kids and teens aged 7-15 (Year 3 to 11).

Our maths programme is designed to challenge and excite more able students and to help all students experience the joy and beauty of maths. The programme teaches approaches and insights that will engage students with low mathematical confidence and can help struggling students truly understand how numbers work.

In the early stages of the programme, your child is introduced to rigorous mathematical concepts using fun, engaging comic-book format study guides. They reinforce and master concepts with hundreds of practice problems, puzzles, and games. As they progress, well structured, problem solving focused textbooks are used to inspire them to explore and develop new ideas.

How it works

Your Maths Club Leader (MCL) is an outstanding, fully qualified and DBS checked, Maths teacher. The MCL acts as your child's maths tutor and coach.

At Raymondson, learning is based on stage, not age. Your child will be assessed to determine the right stage to start at. Your MCL will guide your child through a personalised learning path, to help them realise their full potential, at the optimal pace.

Your child will typically spend an hour each week at their local club working through problem sets with the support of the MCL, high quality digital resources and like minded peers. Problem sets begin at very accessible levels, then quickly require more complex thinking - going well beyond the national curriculum. Our approach models mathematical thinking from multiple viewpoints, and highlights the importance of student conversation and voice in learning mathematics.

To prepare for the weekly problem solving session, your child will have prescribed reading and guided practice to do at home using online resources. To extend their learning, they will be set interactive problems and puzzles to work on at home.

As a guide, we typically recommend that your child spends 3 hours a week - 1 hour at the centre and 2 hours at home, developing their mathematics to ensure excellent progression.  We track your child's mathematical development, and make a wide variety of reports available.

Learn from the best

The Raymondson maths programme is based on curricula resources from the world renowned 'Art of Problem Solving' team that has prepared tens of thousands of students for the rigours of top-tier universities and internationally-competitive careers. We also utilise resources from the Centre for Innovation in Mathematics Teaching (CIMT) and the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT).

Our curriculum goes beyond the national curriculum and GCSE Mathematics exams syllabus. It covers the main learning objectives for each key-stage, but in greater depth and with significantly more opportunities for problem-solving and logical thinking. It therefore offers excellent preparation for popular entrance tests and the new GCSE maths exams. That said, it is important to note that we do not currently offer any specific entrance test prep. We focus on the long term, giving students a solid foundation for future studies in maths, science, engineering, computing and other related fields - this includes enabling them to achieve top grades at GCSE and A-level Maths.  To achieve this goal, we have divided our curriculum into 8 stages. The final stages are exam focused.
