About the Event

We live in the age of the Internet of Things. From TVs to washing machines, thermostats to fitness gear, more and more devices are being connected. The future belongs to the individuals that understand how it all works. If you have a child interested in inventing and connectivity, then this course will help foster that passion. Your child will embark on a fun filled exploration of electronics, physical computing and problem solving.

Over a block of 12 live computer programming and electronics classes , your child will complete a number of micro-controller programming labs using the BBC micro:bit v2. The micro:bit and all add-on hardware components required for the classes will be mailed to your home in advance of the start date - they are yours to keep! All you need is an internet enabled computer ( laptop or desktop) with an available USB port.

In addition, they will create projects that take advantage of the Micro:Bit’s light and temperature sensors, motion sensors, and perform wireless communication through the radio and bluetooth interfaces. They will also learn to control a range of external accessories including a potentiometer and motors (the beginnings of robotics!)

Our experimental learning labs will let your child attempt fun challenges, including creating music and games as they learn about:

  • Manipulating strings, images and animations
  • Working with variables and event based programming
  • Creating functions
  • Using conditions and loops to determine digital outputs
  • Managing digital and analog inputs
